In this world, where everything takes money, its hard to imagine getting something for free. But oh how we try! Especially at this time of year we do whatever we can to score a deal on that extra something special.
What tears at my heart, are those who write into the local newspaper and ask for simple things that most of us take for granted. Their wish lists includes some socks, a small bag of fresh fruit, a trip to the dentist to have a painful tooth extracted, or some shoes for their child. Without the money, these things are out of reach.
But oh how it thrills my heart to realize that the very best thing we could ever have is free! And that is salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord! My Scripture this morning is out of Isaiah 55: Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; all you who have no money, come, buy, and eat!…..Why spend money on what is not bread and your labor on what does not satisfy?
So much of life is spent worrying about temporary things. But Jesus came so we could focus our energies on eternal things…things that bring more satisfaction than even our daily bread. You do not need money, silver or gold to receive God’s gift of salvation through Christ Jesus. And I am so thankful that this free gift is still available to us all! Thank you Lord Jesus….
