Happy 4th to all my Homespun friends!  As I reflect on my lifetime in America, I can see that alot has changed over the years.  Our homes are falling apart, our communities and schools don’t seem safe, our freedoms are being sacrificed in the name of safety, and even the Lord’s church is facing divisive challenges.  Even so, we are blessed to live in a nation where we can still worship and pray.  And pray we must!

God’s Word says that restoration comes from God’s own people. “If my people, which are called by my name,  shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7: 14)  From this verse we see that God’s people, who are called by His name, are the first ones called to action.  They are asked to participate in a 4-part process:

1. Be humble.  Humility is not very glamorous.  And teaching it to our children and grandchildren is pretty challenging at times.  Humility doesn’t mean that we see ourselves as worthless!  No!  It means we recognize that without Christ we are nothing and that all we have and are, we owe to Him.  In light of this, we treat others in higher esteem and show them the love and compassion of Christ. Humility recognizes that Jesus is the source of all blessings.

2. Pray.  Prayer is the way we communicate with God.  Prayer has many parts…praise, adoration, petitions, thanksgiving, asking forgiveness, seeking guidance in life and seeking understanding of the Scripture….and listening.  Listening is the hardest part in a busy life.  The sitting quietly by and waiting for the Lord to speak to our hearts is not always easy but is very important if we are to be wise.

3. Seek His Face.  Let’s face it, this is an area where we are failing.  How often do we call out to God and seek Him?  How often do we ask his guidance and blessing?  Mothers, it is our responsibility to seek God’s face within the walls of our homes.  It is our assigned task to teach our children to seek a relationship with the Lord.

4. Turn from sin. The result of being humble, praying faithfully, and seeking God face to face is repentance.  It is difficult to read God’s Word, pray earnestly to Him, and enjoy a day to day relationship with Him and continue on in sinful living.  While we all fall short of perfection, we should always be striving to turn from any wickedness.  Wickedness is not just something we do…but also the things we think.  For we know that as a man thinketh, so is he.  We must give up sinful behaviors, sinful thinking, and sinful desires.

God says that if His people will do these four steps, then He will be faithful to forgive them and to heal their land.  I think we would all agree that America needs healing.  We know what we must do, now we must get to it.

When Jesus makes us free, then WE ARE FREE INDEED!

Blessings~ Sherry

  1. I’m so glad that you address humility here. It truly is something that is lacking in our society and we need it so much more now than ever!
